Preparing for Audit: Module 2A Implementing Positive Behaviour Support (MLN_Audit6_mod2a_L4)

Description

Leading through Positive Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support is the foundation of quality and dignity. If a participant’s behaviour is managed without being understood, they cannot build skills, confidence, or genuine choice and control.

Implementing Positive Behaviour Support is not just about following a Behaviour Support Plan; it is about curiosity, consistency, and commitment to improving quality of life.

As a frontline leader, you set the standard for how behaviour is interpreted and responded to. You guide staff to look beyond the behaviour and ask what it is communicating. When you model adherence to Behaviour Support Plans, accurate data collection, and reflective practice, you create a culture where behaviour is understood as information, not a problem to be controlled.

Positive Behaviour Support is active, not reactive. This module explores how frontline leaders can embed evidence-based strategies into daily practice, reduce and eliminate restrictive practices, and ensure that support is always proactive, person-centred, and aligned with the NDIS Practice Standards Module 2A – Implementing Positive Behaviour Support.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this learning module, frontline leaders will be able to demonstrate they have met the Practice Standard by:

  • Ensuring Behaviour Support Plans are understood, accessible, and consistently implemented in daily practice.
  • Monitoring data and incident trends to identify patterns, triggers, and skill gaps.
  • Coaching staff to respond to behaviours of concern using proactive, least restrictive strategies.
  • Overseeing the lawful use, reporting, and reduction of restrictive practices in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborating effectively with Behaviour Support Practitioners and families to review and refine strategies.
  • Embedding a culture of reflection and continuous improvement to reduce behaviours of concern over time.
