Fire safety measures (PA_6_update Dec 24)

Description

Fire safety and emergency planning are essential to safeguarding the lives of people with disability. People with disability are at significantly higher risk from home fires and other emergencies compared to the general population. This course, developed in consultation with Fire Rescue Victoria, outlines how NDIS providers and workers can help reduce these risks by identifying fire hazards, supporting participants to plan for emergencies, and meeting their obligations under the NDIS Code of Conduct and Practice Standards.

Course purpose

The purpose of this course is to increase awareness of fire safety risks for people with disability and to support providers and workers in implementing practical fire safety measures. It explains the shared responsibility between individuals, NDIS providers, government agencies, and fire services, and highlights actions that can be taken to prevent fires, respond safely, and ensure compliance with NDIS requirements. The course also promotes proactive fire safety planning, including maintaining smoke alarms, developing home fire escape plans, and supporting participants to prepare emergency plans tailored to their needs.
