The mirror and the microscope: Purpose (MLN1d_L6_empathy)

Description

In disability services, it’s easy to fall into a “microscope” mindset, zooming in on every mistake, every form and every non-compliance issue. Real improvement doesn’t come from scrutiny alone. It comes from reflection.

This course invites you to put down the microscope and pick up the mirror. You will explore how your personal values influence the way you lead, whether your organisation’s purpose still reflects its current reality and how stated values show up in everyday decisions and practice.

This isn’t about pointing fingers. Instead of asking, “Who stuffed up?” ask, “What can we learn about the conditions and systems around this?” Instead of asking, “Did we do it right?” ask, “Did we do what mattered for the people we support?”

By the end of the course, you will be able to distinguish personal purpose from organisational purpose, reflect on how your purpose shapes your leadership, recognise gaps between what the organisation says and what people experience, and identify one practical action that makes purpose more visible. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s greater clarity, alignment and accountability.
