This module is for Behaviour Support Practitioners. It highlights your requirements under the NDIS Practice Standards for Risk Management to support your understanding of restrictive practices

It should take you 15 minutes to complete.


Risk is a part of life. It is the possibility of something bad happening. Risk involves uncertainty about the effects/implications of an activity with respect to things we value (such as health, well-being, wealth, property or the environment). 

It often has a bias of negative, undesirable consequences.

Risk cannot be avoided disability support services. 


Through completion of this course, learners will be able to:

~ Clearly articulate the requirements of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission in regard to risk management.

~ Demonstrate knowledge of the range of risks facing people with disability and how to assess the impact;

~ Understand the approach to risk management through risk identification, risk measurement and risk management (or mitigation); 

~ Understand the fine balance of dignity of risk and duty of care.

~ Understand how the identified risks may influence the need for restrictive practices.
