Risk is a part of life. It is the possibility of something bad happening. Risk involves uncertainty about the effects/implications of an activity with respect to things we value (such as health, well-being, wealth, property or the environment). It often has a bias of negative, undesirable consequences.


Risk cannot be avoided in delivering disability support services. However, ensuring effective risk management is an important part of an organisations strategic response and will contribute to the provision of quality service, generate growth and maintain long-term sustainability. Through completion of this course, learners will be able to:
~ Clearly articulate the requirements of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission in regard to risk management.
~ Demonstrate knowledge of the range of risks facing organisations;
~ Understand the approach to risk management through risk identification, risk measurement and risk management (or mitigation); 

~ Understand the fine balance of dignity of risk and duty of care.
