Welcome to this 10-minute micro-learning module on individual values and beliefs.
This practice standard is about understanding that every person is different. Each person has their own culture, beliefs, identity, relationships and way of living. People with disability have the right to live in a way that reflects who they are, not what others think is best for them.
Support workers play a critical role in meeting this Practice Standard because they are involved in everyday life. The way you speak, listen, offer choices and provide support can either respect a person’s values and beliefs or limit them.
This standard is not just about being polite or kind. It is about protecting rights, dignity and choice. When support workers understand and respect individual values and beliefs, people feel safer, more confident and more in control of their own lives.
In this short module, you will learn:
- What the “individual values and beliefs” Practice Standard requires from you
- How your daily actions can support or limit choice and identity
- Simple ways to show respect through language, behaviour and decisions
By the end of this module, you will understand how respecting individual values and beliefs helps people:
- feel safe to be themselves
- practise their culture, beliefs and identity
- build relationships that matter to them
- take part in community life
This module will help you turn the Practice Standard into real, practical actions you can use in your daily work.
